Introducing the Avidyne DFC90

Platinum Aviation Service is now offering fly-in, same day service upgrades on the new Avidyne DFC90 Digital autopilot. This upgrade replaces your S-TEC 55X rate based autopilot with a new digital autopilot. The difference will be substantial. No more "hunting" on the ILS. This is a much more professional quality unit. Your aircraft will fly on autopilot like never before!

Avidyne DFC90 Owners Will Notice Several Immediate Improvements

Greatly improved stability due to the use of attitude data to control the autopilot inner control loops. This is particularly evident and important when tracking an ILS to minimums in windy conditions.

Avidyne Flight Envelope Protection prevents autopilot-induced stalls and overspeeds, which have previously been a major contributing factor in GA accidents. This includes having the autopilot avoid exceeding the flight envelope while providing visual and aural warnings to the pilot.

The new Indicated Airspeed Hold (IAS) vertical mode includes a dedicated Airspeed knob and a new airspeed bug on the PFD.

A “Straight & Level” button which overrides all autopilot modes and levels the aircraft in both pitch and roll from a wide range of capture attitudes for an added measure of safety.

The flight director capability of the DFC90 is vastly improved and greatly improves the ability to hand-fly approaches.

Additional Improvements of the DFC90

There are many other improvements, such as a dedicated Vertical Speed knob, pitch hold mode, wide autopilot engagement, additional annunciations in PFD 8.0, a dedicated GPSS button, automatic Back Course Approach selection, multiple color annunciations to indicate armed and active states, intercept mode annunciations, and Avidyne’s hallmark ease of use.

About Avidyne's Envelope Protection

Both the DFC90 and the DFC100 incorporate Avidyne’s exclusive Envelope Protection capability that prohibits inadvertent flight control system–induced stall or overspeed, which are common problems cited in many general aviation accidents.

With this autoplot upgrade, your PFD will be upgraded to Release 8. This new system offers a dramatic improvement at a low cost. The S-TECH autopilot has always been the weakest link in the original Cirrus / Avidyne system. The DFC90 is an autopilot comparable to the digital autopilot found in the Garmin Perspective equipped Cirrus aircraft.
