Cirrus Transition Training - VFR Edition - Estimated Costs

We have this page here on our website in order to give you a basic idea of what the Cirrus Transition Course might cost the average VFR pilot. The transition course uses a scenario based teaching method and a good part of it entails aeronautical decision-making and the ability to handle failures. The seven lesson course can be completed with 10 hours in the aircraft, over the course of 3 days. However this can very greatly depending on ones piloting skills, total time and experience as well as your advance preparation prior to coming to the course. This course is almost a “mini” type rating and like those kinds of courses you are expected to come to the first lesson fully prepared and well studied using the course materials. Failure to do so will greatly affect the cost of the course or possibly even your ability to complete it at all.

Below is the estimated cost to do the transition in a Cirrus SR-20 Avidyne Equipped aircraft.

Aircraft rates and instructor rates vary. Cost below are shown as a guide.

10 hours aircraft rental @ $199 per hour “dry”$1,990.00
Fuel$650.00
Instructor Time (Ground and Flight) @ $90 per hour$2,160.00
Cirrus Transition Training Kit$495.95

Total$5,295.95

Using the most expensive aircraft, the SR-22 G3 Turbo, with air-conditioning and the Cirrus Perspective avionics system, you could expect the following costs. The Perspective system is a bit more complex and may take additional time to understand fully.

10 hours aircraft rental @ $ 295.00 per hour “dry”$2,950.00
Fuel$970.00
Instructor Time (Ground and Flight) @ $90 per hour$2,160.00
Cirrus Transition Training Kit$495.95

Total$6,575.95

We recommend that you do the transition in the aircraft you intend to rent or fly the most often. Transitioning in the SR-20 will not allow you to fly the SR-22. However if you transition in the SR-22, you will only be required to do a short check out to fly the SR-20.

Avionics differences training will be required to move from one avionics system to the other. Those pilots that do their initial training in the non turbo aircraft will be required to do turbo differences training in order to fly the turbo charged aircraft.

Platinum makes no guarantee that anyone can complete the Cirrus transition-training course in the time allotted in the examples above. The examples are given just to give you an idea of what you can expect.
